Located on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the famous gallows of Judge Isaac C. Parker, who was appointed judge for the U. S. Federal Court for the Western District of Arkansas in the late 1800's. Parker became wellknown as the "Hanging Judge". Events at this historical landmark inspired the 1969 John Wayne Classic "True Grit".
